Lauren Marcott is a watercolor artist who lived around the world before settling in Arlington.  She has sketched since she could hold a pencil, but took up watercolor when she retired ten years ago because of the way it holds light, its transparency, its resistance to control, and its sheer joy of the unexpected.  She uses representational watercolor to show the inner light of an object—a building, a landscape, a person. She is always exploring ways to put her individual stamp on paintings using color, composition, and shape. Her works brighten homes and offices from Utah to Michigan, from Massachusetts to Georgia, and overseas.   In addition to the Alliance, she is a member of the Gallery Underground, the Virginia Watercolor Society and the Potomac Valley Watercolorists.
