Shelley Micali

Shelley Micali lives in Arlington, VA with her family and where she paints in her home-studio. She belongs to the Arlington Artists Alliance and shows her work in local venues, including Cassatt’s Café, The Arlington Treasurer’s Office and the Arlington Free Clinic. Shelley has donated works for charity auctions to benefit the National Brain Tumor Society and the Arlington Artists Alliance, and her local church. She has also shown her work in the Gallery Underground in Crystal City, Virginia. In 2014, Shelley won a prize for a painting submitted to a juried show for the Arlington Audi dealership. Shelley has been commissioned for several works of art for various clients.

Though Shelley’s formal oil painting instruction only began in 2008, she has been creating works of art since the 1970’s when she was a girl and exhibited creations at local Washington, D.C. art shows she attended with her mother, an accomplished botanical illustrator. After many years of working in the finance industry and raising two boys, Shelley has happily re-connected with her creative side!

Jessica Mickey

Jessica Mickey is a local Arlingtonian, who has found inspiration and love in oil paints. Jessica minored in Visual Arts in college, but her focus then was photography. Today, Jessica uses a paintbrush instead, to focus on light and vibrancy, attempting to draw viewers in with color and composition, often making you feel a part of the painting. Her style would most likely be called photorealism, but with a flare of effervescence that captivates a moment in time more than a photograph ever could. In fact, Jessica’s work has unique undertones of hyper-realism, bringing the viewer’s eye directly where she wants you to focus, sometimes even making you question whether it’s a painting or a photo. Jessica has done many commissions, most often portraits of people and pets, but her favorite compositions are still landscapes.

Since joining the Arlington Artists Alliance in 2013, she has shown her work at the Arlington Free Clinic, Luna Grill, Cosi in Courthouse, Arlington Co. Treasurer’s Office, Cassatt’s, SAIC/Leidos, Toby’s Ice Cream, Hand-N-Hand Therapy, the Aurora Hills Library, Sterling Picture Framing, the Holiday Inn in Ballston (which she also helps co-curate), Gallery Underground and now Gallery Clarendon. Jessica was also the Co-Director of Gallery Underground for 3.5 years from March 2014-November 2017. Jessica’s artwork can be found in private collections across the United States and internationally.

Anne Feldman

Although I have experimented with many different forms of art, I currently am focusing on large, expressive oil paintings of flowers. Working from live plants that grow in my garden, I render detailed drawings each spring. My oil paintings are based on these drawings.

I studied extensively at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, earning a certificate in drawing and painting. I also have studied at the Brookside Gardens School of Art and Illustration. I show my work widely in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, and I have won several awards honoring my work. I belong to the Arlington Artists Alliance and The Art League.

Parvaneh Limbert

As an art lover, the Washington area’s rich cultural life, the encouragement of friends and family, and the leisure of retirement have allowed me to resume painting and return to what I had enjoyed so much in my childhood. I began art seriously after retiring from government service in 2005. I set up a studio at our home basement. Good space and lighting encouraged me more. I spend as much as time as I can with my art and my studio inspires me to concentrate on my work.

I began with oils and later took up water color and acrylic. I took a course in abstract painting at the Art League of Alexandria. There I found I loved the bright colors of abstract art. I have participated in numerous shows and am an enthusiastic member of the Arlington Artists Alliance and have displayed in local galleries. I have had paintings chosen for juried shows in numerous venues in Northern Virginia.

Much of my inspiration comes from travel. I have visited France and Italy for workshops and have painted many scenes from Vermont and foreign countries where I lived during 33 years in the U.S. Foreign Service.

Deborah Taylor

I see myself as a contemporary impressionist painter. I focus on plein air landscape painting and still life painting from set ups in my studio.

My artistic journey has taken me on several paths. Early, I was interested in craft/sculpture and working with tools. I took a break from creative pursuits to follow a career outside of art as well as for child rearing. For the past several (many) years I have focused on oil painting. Painting guides me in looking at the world with intention.

One path that has been especially rewarding for me is to paint small and often. I initially painted daily and then wrote about the process on a blog. I have since left the blog (after almost two years) and now have become more flexible in my painting practice. I sometimes paint abstracts in acrylic, sketches in watercolor or gouache and have lots of fun with encaustics. However, I always return to my true calling – small, intimate paintings in oil.

Rebecca Croft primarily enjoys painting landscapes in oil as well as acrylics on paper. Her favorite subjects are rolling hills, trees, water, and skies. She especially likes to paint landscapes from places she has traveled. Her interests lay in the nature found around her. She continues to study painting under the direction of other local artists and teachers.

Born an Army Brat, Rebecca has lived in many places in the world but makes her home in Arlington, Virginia with her husband and two children. She has traveled extensively and likes to paint from her photos as well as “Plein Air”.

Rebecca Salzinger

I enjoy creating beautiful works of art using watercolor, oil, acrylic, and pastels. Like many artists, my interest in painting began as a young girl using crayons and watercolors. I was born in Richmond, Va and lived my early life on a farm with a large family in Hanover. As an adult I took classes in art at American University during the summers off from teaching math in Fairfax County.

Once retired, I enrolled in the many local art classes available in the Northern Virginia area thru Arlington Adult Ed, The Art League, NVCC, and other art programs and workshops. I became a member of the McLean Art Society, the Arlington Artists Alliance, and Potomac Valley Watercolorist.

I enjoy the challenge of painting landscapes, flowers, and abstracts. I have been juried into many art shows in the local area and my works hang in may locations in Northern Virginia . I continue to enjoy the challenging field of art.

Rebecca McNeely

My paintings are usually sparked by my responses to nature, memories and experience. Each painting is a new collaboration of paint with these perceptions and my attention, intuition and training. The challenge is to use my training and intuition simultaneously while ‘listening’ to the painting with eyes and heart to know what the painting needs and when it is finished.

Nan Morrison

Painter Nan Morrison works in oil, acrylic and mixed media. Self taught, her paintings express a love of color, texture, line and free form. She is a member of the Columbia Pike Artist Studios in South Arlington.

Anya Getter

My art is a way for me to inject my inner-world of emotions and imagination into physical realm of our everyday lives. I am drawn to bright colors, patterns and various textures, which I love to mix and match on my canvas to reflect a particular mood or a feeling. I usually draw my inspiration from words – be that a beautiful poem, a meaningful quote, or a popular sayings. That’s why you will likely find a lot of writing in my work. Each piece is done in layers, which I believe better reflects the complexity and depth of our emotions, thoughts or experiences. I am grateful to my fans for inspiring my work and sharing their insights with me which in turn enrich my world and find their way back onto the canvas. I have heard many people say that every time they look at my painting they discover something new that may have been hidden from them before. The painting almost seems to change with the viewer as his or her feelings and emotion change and fluctuate throughout our daily lives.
